Bureau of Patrol

The Bureau of Patrol is responsible for general field operations, including the protection of life and property, the apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of state and municipal traffic laws. The Bureau is responsible for processing and maintaining custody of arrestees held in central lockup and transporting them to courts and institutions. Within the Bureau are specialized units to target locations with a high potential for public violence and to provide a ready force of personnel to respond to emergency situations. Other units within the Bureau support district law enforcement by administering the vacant building program; providing marine and mounted patrols, and air support; providing traffic enforcement, intersection control, and traffic accident investigations; and controlling large groups of people at public gatherings.
